Creating Normal Maps with CRAZYBUMP
This demo is a brief run-thru of how you can use Crazy bump (a free download from crazybump.com) to generate normal maps.
For this tutorial in video format:

STEP 1:

Open Crazybump and choose to open a heightmap file.

I have already generated a file in Photoshop from the desaturation of the color map:

 

STEP 2:

In the 3d Preview, you have the option to view the potential normal map on a ball, or, even cooler, you can load your own original mesh as a .obj file! Click the Load Mesh option circled below.

When you have found the proper settings, choose "save normals to file..."
