MAA 1112: Drawing and Anatomy

Continuing to develop the basic drawings course, students will focus on rendering life forms in space. Emphasis will be placed on the basic anatomical structures of human and animal forms.

Week2: Anatomical Terminology-the Skeleton

Lecture: Crit Bones and Side View of Skeleton assignments. Anatomical terminology. Continue sighting for measurement & proportion; anatomical gestures & contours of skeleton; simplifying, weight & mass silhouette. Review for Quiz.

Lab:Practice with model. We will work in 4 different modes. First we will draw gestures alone. Then we will simplfy and draw bones structure as we think it would work on the model. Another one of our assignments will be to draw the skeleton inside the gesture:

Homework:  1. Three Views of Skeleton, part II: Side & Back view of Skeleton joining the side view on the same sheet of Bristol or on a a separate sheet on Bristol, labeled according to handout/notes due next week for critique. (Re-do Side View if not in proportion.)(Ref. Simblet & Albinus. Label according to handout/class notes, Simblet, & Albinus for side view.) EXAMPLES OF STUDENT WORK:


2. Study for quiz (major bones and class notes)


3. Sketchbook extra credit: two blind/partially blind continuous line contours of your hands, feet, and/or face in mirror. (5-10 mins. each).


4. Simblet: (Torso) Pg. 34-40, 72-85 (86-91 optional), and 92-93.
Materials for next week: Drawing board, conte crayon, Newsprint, Bristol and good drawing paper.
